The Differences of Cannabis and Hemp
Cannabis is the name of the plant family. Hemp and marijuana are both varieties of cannabis.
The scientific name of hemp is cannabis ruderalis while marijuana is cannabis sativa.
The hemp plant is taller and has sturdy stalks and can be grown in a variety of environmental conditions. Marijuana plant is shorter and requires a tropical environment to grow.
All hemp and marijuana are cannabis but not all cannabis are hemp or marijuana. In general, though, marijuana is referred to as cannabis so we will refer to it as such.
Hemp and cannabis both contain THC and CBD. Hemp has lower levels of THC but has high cannabinoid or CBD content while it’s vice versa in marijuana. Cannabinoids are the compounds that are present in cannabis plants.
